The Indonesian Port Business Entity Association (ABUPI) held a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) with the theme “The Role of BUP and Tersus / TUKS in Encouraging Regional Economic Growth”, at the Morazen hotel, Surabaya, Thursday (10/10/2024).
The FGD in Surabaya started the ABUPI Roadshow 2024 activities in 3 big cities, namely Surabaya, Samarinda and Makassar.
Present at the Surabaya FGD were stakeholders in the maritime sector, such as Port Operators, Local Governments, Academics and business people as well as associations in the maritime sector.
This was revealed by Febri Aulia Fatwa, Chairman of ABUPI in a written statement received by Ocean Week on Friday afternoon.
“In the discussion, it was agreed that synergy and collaboration between BUP, Tersus/TUKS, and other stakeholders are needed to maximize the role of the maritime sector in driving regional economic growth,” he said.
Febri said, in the discussion, each resource person gave his views. The Head of Tanjung Perak Main KSOP, Agustinus Maun, S.T., M.T, conveyed the importance of the port’s role in supporting national logistics distribution, while the Head of East Java Provincial Bappeda, Ir. Mohammad Yasin, M.SI discussed regional development strategies through port management.
Meanwhile, Vice Chairman of INSA East Java, Dwi Agus Wahyono, highlighted the role of shipping businesses in improving maritime competitiveness.
In the same place, Sebastian Wibisono, Chairman of DPW ALFI East Java, emphasized efficiency in the logistics chain to encourage economic growth.
On this occasion Achmad Baroto from Kadin Jatim, explained the importance of the role of the business world in strengthening the Port ecosystem and as the last speaker Kody Lamahayu Fredy from APBMI conveyed the need to strengthen collaboration between parties in the management of loading and unloading at the port.
According to Febri, what is interesting about this discussion is the expectation of the local government regarding the contribution of the existence of ports, Tersus / TUKS to PAD. Although it is recognized that the existence of the Port, Tersus / TUKS has an impact on overall regional economic growth.
Tanjung Perak Main KSOP Agustinus Maun, S.T., M.T, said that the Government, in this case the Ministry of Transportation, has provided space for the Regional Government to manage the Ministry’s Port, but the Regional Government stated that it was not ready, especially related to its budget and human resources.
Meanwhile, ABUPI Chairman Aulia Febrial Fatwa emphasized that strong collaboration between government and private institutions is needed to create an efficient and globally competitive maritime ecosystem.
“The readiness of the local government in managing the central assets (Ports) that were handed over, is the key to success in achieving sustainable regional economic growth, especially in the maritime sector,” said Febri. (**)
